Is neighbor liable for damage to our property by his dog.?

You can ask them to reimburse you, But you willingly brought the dog into your backyard, yes I know it was the right thing to do but, you made the choice and the dog tore up your yard because of it, its not their owners fault you put the dog in your backyard.
