Ramadan: Why can a man marry 4 wives but a woman 1 husband?

It is a cultural construction, the Arabs and subsequently all others subjected to their hegemony viewed polygamy as acceptable for men but not for women. And the fact that it is a cultural construction is unassailable, one can see why when one looks at non-Muslim culture and their views of polygamy, if polygamy as propounded by Islam was/is some universal inclination for all people such would not be the case, there should be not dissent among various cultures on the matter but there is.
